Refugee Action in collaboration with partner organisations has created a toolkit for organisations who want to introduce the key concepts of Early Action to others within their organisation or ecosystem, or to support embedding of Early Action Principles into their practice and planning.

Refugee Action in collaboration with partner organisations has created a toolkit for organisations who want to introduce the key concepts of Early Action to others within their organisation or ecosystem, or to support embedding of Early Action Principles into their practice and planning.

Early Action is an approach to designing and delivering services and systems that help people in the asylum system before they reach crisis.

How does it work?

The toolkit is aimed at Service Planners and Team Managers to facilitate in their organisations.

The modules are split into separate activities of approximately an hour that can be selected depending on the needs of the team or organisation.

The toolkit gives facilitators all the materials:

  • editable slide decks
  • worksheets (and answers) to deliver in person or online
  • delivery guidance notes

What’s covered?

The toolkit contains three modules from basic to more advanced.

  • Module 1 - Early Action Basics: An introduction to the Principles and Stages of Early Action for anyone new to Early Action, or who wants a refresher.
  • Module 2 - Early Action in Practice: Insights into the application of Early Action for anyone planning to embed an Early Action approach into their organisation.
  • Module 3 - Early Action for Planning: Materials for people in service planning roles to help plan workshop activities centred on tackling crisis issues affecting asylum seekers

There is also a library of materials related to the Early Action Principles: Co-production, Collaboration, Experimentation, Long term change, and Services that empower.

What organisations are saying

“The slides for the Introductory workshop in Module 1 were helpful to show in our ecosystem meeting to showcase the main principles of Early Action. We’re hoping to run a longer session soon to go into more depth and use the EA Assessment tool”

“The EA Assessment tool created really interesting discussion about what stage each of our projects is at, how we might spent less time on late stage interventions and see where there were gaps in preventative work”

“As a service planner I can see myself using the planning activity in Module 3 to review current issues, it’s really helpful to have the structured questions to work through, firstly on my own and then with others”
