A Complex Case In early 2023, we encountered a complex legal challenge involving AN, a client referred by a local anti-trafficking charity. AN’s asylum claim had been denied, and their immigration lawyers declined further support, citing low odds of appeal success.
We delved into AN’s case and found a disparity between the Home Office’s stance and expert opinions regarding their claim’s alignment with the refugee convention. As such, our goal was to restore Legal Aid and secure AN proper legal representation, ensuring their rights were protected.
We reached out to ATLEU, a charity specialising in aiding trafficking victims, and also engaged with potential Legal Aid representatives to strengthen AN’s case. We presented a strong case to the Legal Aid Agency, challenging the lawyer’s initial assessment and emphasising relevant evidence. This approach bolstered our confidence in Legal Aid reinstatement and securing representation.
While pursuing Legal Aid, the Tribunal expedited AN’s appeal, posing a challenge. Swiftly, we petitioned the First Tier Tribunal for an adjournment, backed by evidence and persuasive arguments. Our efforts bore fruit as Legal Aid was reinstated, and the First Tier Tribunal granted the adjournment. AN’s case advanced with newfound legal support.
AN’s case exemplifies our commitment to navigating legal complexities. We remain steadfast in our pursuit of justice, relying on partnerships, diligent research, and thorough advocacy to ensure fair treatment for all.
